About

“If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do… HOW WOULD I BE? WHAT WOULD I DO?”

– Richard Buckminster Fuller

As an academic institution, employer, investor and community partner, Sheridan strives to become the institutional model for how a 21st century organization embraces sustainability.

We aim to foster an institutional culture defined by informed and responsible decision making that reflects the crucial balance between economic, social and environmental priorities, and have built our leadership and reputation by using our campuses as ‘living laboratories’ for sustainability transition, curricular innovation and interdisciplinary teaching and learning.

Built on over 50 years of Sheridan programming and applied solutions expertise, our approach to sustainable practice combines a powerful innovation culture with the inescapable scientific boundaries which define human need and dwindling resources.

Given the many extraordinary variations on the sustainability theme that might serve to enrich the daily fabric of the Sheridan community, our framework for implementation includes all members of the Sheridan Community. We commit to:

  • challenging ourselves to continuous improvement and developing innovative solutions that address issues of energy and water use, waste reduction, air quality improvement, and product procurement;
  • building stronger communities and projecting true global citizenship by addressing the difficult challenges of global climate change, environmental degradation, social justice, and social equity;
  • working to ensure that all members of the Sheridan community continuously seek to minimize adverse impacts that the College’s activities have on the environment and society;
  • advancing long-term institutional objectives while navigating a forward-looking, informed, evidence-based sustainable path
