Welcome to the Sheridan Community Garden!

ABOUT:

Sheridan’s Community Garden is a grassroots initiative that began during the winter of 2016. Initially built in May 2016, the garden is located at Trafalgar Campus in Oakville, Ontario, between A-Wing and the Athletics Centre. A permanent garden was constructed in May 2017.

Aimed at providing an applied outdoor learning experience, the Community Garden provides participants with the opportunity to learn how to grow and harvest local, organic, in-season food for personal consumption, almost entirely free of charge (purchase of additional plants or materials is up to your discretion). The Community Garden is designed to help foster collaboration and community involvement by providing participants the opportunity to teach, learn and mentor each other in groups.

Students, staff, and faculty of experience levels from first time planters to dedicated gardeners, are all welcome to participate in the Community Garden activity.

The Garden is overseen by the Sheridan Community Garden Committee that consists of Jessica Carey (currently on maternity leave), Jessica Derreck, Melina Elia, Kimberley Haney, Susan Montgomery, Nathan Nettleton, Anna Pautler, and Andrew Staples (currently on leave). Sheridan’s Community Garden has received funding from the 2016 President’s Creative Challenge for Wellness, and a grant from TD Friends of the Environment. Thank you!

2018 GROWING SEASON

We are currently accepting applications for the 2018 growing season! If you’d like to participate, please fill out the intake form found here. If you sign up as an individual, you will be placed in a group. If you would like to sign up as a group, you can list your other group members on the intake form.

RESOURCES:

Before participating in any gardening activity, each participant must:

  1. Sign and hand in the group Member Agreement (one form per group);
  2. Sign and hand in the Waiver form (one per individual); and
  3. Review the Sheridan Community Garden Handbook.

We will bring copies of the Member Agreement and Waiver to the orientation meeting.
